Garage flooring in Auckland, done in a day

We diamond-grind your concrete, broadcast a full flake layer and seal it with a clear polyaspartic topcoat. It won't peel like garage floor paint, it hides dust and tyre marks, and you can park on it the next day.

1 day install ~24 h to park from $55/m² incl. GST moisture tested first

How a flake garage floor goes down

Five steps, one day

Almost every coating that fails in New Zealand garages fails because of preparation. So that's where most of our time goes.

  1. STEP 1

    Moisture test

We test the slab for rising damp before we quote. If it's high, we add a moisture barrier coat or tell you it's not worth doing.

  2. STEP 2

    Diamond grind

The whole floor is ground with dust extraction to open the concrete. Cracks and chips are filled and ground flush.

  3. STEP 3

    Base coat

A pigmented base coat goes on wall to wall, including up to 100 mm of the walls if you want a cove edge.

  4. STEP 4

    Full flake broadcast

Flake is thrown into the wet base until no base shows through. This gives the texture and the grip.

  5. STEP 5

    Clear topcoat

Loose flake is scraped back and a UV-stable polyaspartic clear coat seals it. Walk on it that evening.

Garage floor paint vs coating

Why garage floor paint peels

Most garage floor paint from the hardware store is a thin coat rolled onto unprepared concrete. Hot tyres soften it and lift it off, usually within a year or two. A ground, flake-filled coating is many times thicker and bonds into the concrete itself.

Questions people ask

Garage floor FAQ

Straight answers, including the downsides.

What are the disadvantages of resin flooring?

It needs proper preparation, so it costs more than paint. It can be slippery when wet if no texture is added (flake fixes this). Damp slabs need a moisture barrier first. And a badly installed coating is hard to repair, which is why we test and grind every floor.

How long does a flake garage floor last?

On a well-prepared slab with normal household use, a flake coating should last many years. The clear topcoat can be re-coated later without grinding back to concrete.

Is epoxy better than polyaspartic?

Both work. Epoxy is slower to cure (several days before cars) and can yellow in sunlight. Polyaspartic cures fast and is UV-stable, which is why we use it as the topcoat for one-day installs.

Can I just use garage floor paint?

You can, and it's cheaper. Expect it to lift under hot tyres and need redoing. If you want a floor you only do once, a ground coating is the better buy. Read our garage floor paint guide.

Can you fix a peeling epoxy floor?

Yes. We grind off the failed coating, repair the concrete and lay a new system. Peeling usually means the original wasn't ground or the slab had moisture. How garage floor repair works.

Do you do patios, laundries and workshops?

Yes. Outdoor areas get a UV-stable system and extra grip. See epoxy flooring beyond the garage.
